Florida Springs News Member Tools Links Contact Us RSS Feed December 2018 Rally The Christmas rally at Ocala North RV park was a Jolly” good time. Bill and Cathy and Rose and Chuck did a super job taking care of everyone. We enjoyed nice weather Thursday and Friday so Happy hour was outside at Lou and Sonja’s rig. Friday morning was a hot breakfast followed by a trip to the Cade Museum for Creativity & Invention. It is named for Dr. James Robert Cade, a professor of renal (kidney) medicine at the University of Florida and the lead inventor of the sports drink Gatorade. In 2004 the Cade Museum Foundation was established to build and operate the facility. Opening in the Spring of 2018, it is an outstanding venue to visit. Friday evening there was a potluck with lots of yummy food. Mike and Lisa Cofield joined us for the evening. Saturday the weather had changed so the hot breakfast was a good starter. We took advantage of the activities in the area before happy hour. Morris and Norma Foreman joined us for happy hour and dinner followed by the White elephant gift exchange. This is always a highlight for this rally and no one was disappointed. The mysterious Billy Bass” returned and before the night ended Norma took him home. Sunday morning was breakfast before we cleaned up, packed up and said goodbye. We all enjoyed meeting new members Clint and Jeanette Johnson and Vince and Donna Bufalieri. December 18 2018 | Uncategorized | No Comments » November 2018 Rally By Heidi Tayman Sunset Isle RV Park, Cedar Keys, FL, November 8 – 12, 2018 Well, this was my first joint Florida rally, 30+ rigs, incredible! Thank you to Sonja for co-hosting with the Florida Airstream Club to make this such a wonderful event. Started the long Veteran’s Day week end with happy hour at the Club House followed by a cook out. Having so much fun and socializing that few pictures were taken ☹. Our unit is constantly growing, and we were happy to see our newest members Lisa & Mike Cofield. Mike is quite the photographer and his pictures can be seen on the Florida Springs Airstream Club’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/164698751040848/ Friday offered several competing planned activities: boat tour, paddling seminar/kayaking or touring historic Cedar Keys. We choose the boat tour. Oh, the sights we saw on this beautiful day. After a full day of activity, we gathered at the Club House for Tony’s Famous Clam Chowder. Delicious but not for those watching calories. So good we went to Tony’s and bought some to bring home. Later we were told it could be purchased at Publix and Winn Dixie. Who knew? Saturday started with a big pancake breakfast. The day was spent touring historic Cedar Keys. The city has a fascinating history as outlined in the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedar_Key,_Florida . Having slept in, we were wide awake for the afternoon pasta dinner at the Club House. The Florida Airstream Club provided the choice of pasta with red or white clam sauce and meatballs/sausage in tomato sauce. Soooo good! Some members departed on Sunday but those who stayed enjoyed an additional day of fun. Originally a pot luck was planned, but I am told there was such an abundance of pancake mix & pasta left over that the pot luck was cancelled, and they had leftovers. How great was that? John & I left on Sunday due to the attack of the No see um (bugs). John did not have one bite, but they loved me ☹. Researched the little pests, after getting home, and found a home-made repellant of mouth wash, witch hazel & tea oil. I will try this next time. In closing a special thank you goes out to our members of the Armed Services, past and present, who sacrificed for our country, so we could enjoy the freedom to gather in peace. God bless you and keep you safe! November 16 2018 | Uncategorized | No Comments » Highlights Of The December 2017 Rally Bill and Cathy Alsmeyer and Chuck and Rose Carlson out did themselves with Fun, Food and Fellowship at Ocala North RV Park. The weather was not always the best and the Saturday Carriage Ride was cancelled but our Christmas Dinner and White Elephant gift exchange was the highlight of the weekend. Thursday evening we were joined at Sam’s St John’s Seafood Restaraunt by several members who could not make the Rally and on Saturday night the Scott’s and Foreman’s joined in at the Christams Party. Billy Bass could not be caught this year so he can still be hooked next year. December 18 2017 | Uncategorized | No Comments » NOVEMBER 2017 RALLY Bill and Pat Shay had a busy schedule for our November Rally. Check out the December 2017 Manatee for pictures from the Rally. The Manatee can be seen at the link on the left side of the website Home page. Thanks Bill and Pat for hosting the Rally October 18 2016 | Uncategorized | No Comments » JANUARY RALLY Florida Spring members enjoyed a new location for our January Rally …. Venice Memorial Gardens. David and Joanne were wonderful hosts, ensuring that we had great restaurants for breakfast a nd dinner, tips on places to explore and making sure our rally style camping went off without a hitch. The Saturday night potluck and bonfire topped off 3 days of fun and fellowship in the Venice area. Camping behind the Memorial Gardens was quiet and serene, plenty of space to hike around the lake, plus enjoy the peacefulness of the Memorial Gardens. We also had the chance to look at some of David’s toys, a collection of vintage tractors, a restored military jeep and several other unique things. As a member of the Florida Flywheelers, he gets several chances each year to show off his collection while enjoying the other members in this unique club. With everyone having a great time, we’ll return in January 2016 for another rally at the same location. January 31 2015 | Uncategorized | No Comments » DECEMBER CHRISTMAS RALLY It was a great Christmas Rally at Suwannee River Hideaway Campground in Old Town. Carl and Wendy Taylor out did themselves with all the Fun and Fellowship. Tucked away along the River, it is a quiet, peaceful place with a long boardwalk that takes you out to the river. Things kicked off Thursday afternoon when everyone gathered for happy hour before heading over to the town of Suwannee for dinner at the Salt Creek Restaurant. It is a stunning view from the dining room as you look out over the water. The food was very good and the service excellent. Friday started with hot breakfast in the clubhouse and then some of us spent late morning and early afternoon exploring the area. Friday night we had a potluck dinner. The staff from the campground judged our trailer Christmas decorations and as we learned later it was a fierce competition with 2 first place winners, Dale and Janis Edwards and Jim and Alice Trusley. Saturday afternoon we headed to the Putnam Lodge for a tour of this historic facility and a Christmas dinner in the dining room. The food was outstanding and the tour was well worth it. The owner gave us her personnel best. The future plans for Putnam Lodge are evolving and so we expected to hear more about the good things happening there. The evening was just getting started when we returned to the campground. A favorite tradition got underway with the White Elephant” gift exchange. Everyone was waiting to see who got Billy Bass, You know, that fish that sings a song for you. Before the night was over not only was Bill in the hands of new owner but brother Bobby appeared so next year two people will have a chance to take home this treasured prize.
